Fall is just around the corner!
September 11th, 2008The same trees that provide Timberknee’s excellent wood flooring also provide Vermont’s beautiful fall foliage.
“Vermont’s fall foliage is world famous. Vermont is blessed with a topography of rolling hills and mountains that are forested with an exceptional mix of colorful hardwoods, especially maples. While most of the world sees autumn as muted russet and yellow, Vermont’s woodlands seem ablaze with crimson, scarlet and orange, as well as all the rest. Vermont’s foliage season begins during mid-September in the northern part of the state, then moves steadily southward through mid-October.”

About Vermont’s White Pine
August 11th, 2008
“The white pine is one of Vermont’s most important coniferous trees. The tall, straight pines were once used for the masts of ships. King George III of England declared in 1760 that “all white and other pine trees fit for masting the Royal Navy” should be branded with his mark. The white pine was included on the Great Seal of Vermont, designed by Ira Allen in 1778.
The white pine is commonly found in the sandy soils of the lowland areas in the state. It grows 75 to 100 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet in diameter. The three to five inch needles grow in bundles of five. Today the white pine is used for lumber, furniture, and paper production.”

This beautiful wood was first used by the original colonists and has proved its worth for over two centuries. These are our widest boards, starting out light in color, and soon aging to a golden amber. White pine’s softer surface will develop character wear and is among the easiest materials to refinish. Perhaps the most traditional of all wide planks, white pine has been milled or sawn into flooring for nearly three centuries. We use a combination of grades which allows for a beautiful blend of solid dark knots dispersed amid the delicate fine grain patterns so appreciated in this species.
National Wood Flooring Association Recommends Wood Flooring To Increase the Value of Your Home
July 12th, 2008“Residential real estate agents say homes with wood floors hold their value better, sell faster, and fetch higher prices, according to a recent nationwide survey commissioned by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). By a three-to-one margin, real estate agents said that a house with wood floors would sell faster than a carpeted house. Some 58 percent said a house with wood floors would bring a higher price. “There is a perception today that they don’t build homes like they used to,” according to one Pennsylvania agent. “So when people see hardwood floors instead of carpet-covered plywood, they feel the entire house was built with superior building materials.”

What is Green Building?
May 20th, 2008At TimberKnee, we feel a strong call to care for the forests that supply the wood we use. When you purchase your flooring from TimberKnee, you can be sure that you’re doing your part not just for your family, but the world.
Not only are hardwood floors clean and not allergen-promoting, but hardwood floors are an environmentally conscious choice. Hardwood flooring is all natural, and doesn’t contain the toxic chemicals that carpeting or vinyl floors do. Hardwood floors, when finished with a non-toxic product, will not outgas these chemicals for your family to breathe.
We are proud to be certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council, an independent, nonprofit, non-governmental organization based in Bonn, Germany, that provides standard setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry.
The FSC “Smartwood” certification means that we uphold the FSC standards through the chain of custody until your floor is delivered. We work with loggers and lumber mills who are also certified to make sure that the wood we use and the flooring and moulding you receive is not just beautiful, but responsible - ensuring that the next generations will appreciate not only the hardwood floor, but the forest it came from!
